The mild winter continues this should push the walleye spawn ahead a couple weeks. There is still ice flow on the western basin of Lake Erie but no safe ice for ice fishing. Undoubtedly there are hard core trophy walleye fisherman launching boats when the weather permits. Keep a hawk eye out so you do not get pinned in a ice flow. Also travel slow as the blue ice is transparent in the water and is very hard to see. It will damage your boat. The walleye should be staged from the Islands Green – Rattle snake area and all along the out side shelf break. My favorite starting points are Niagara Reef working 30 feet and up, Cone reef the same depths and A can. The older females 6 lbs and up will drop their eggs most likely starting Mid March with the main spawn going strong by the first of April.

Spring jig fishing is just around the corner!Starting April 1. Slow trolling or rod in hand jig fishing. www.coevannacharters.com
